Voluntary work and international exchange
The participation of European voluntary worker has had a long tradition in the FMHM. Since its founding 45 years ago the FMHM the voluntary workers have always left behind tangible traces of their work.
In cooperation with the Austrian parish Frastanz and the German organization VIA e.V. (Verein für internationalen und interkulturellen Austausch, im Rahmen des Programms Weltwärts – Organization for international and intercultural exchange, in line with the program “Weltwärts) there exists for young Austrians and Germans the possibility, to do their civil service here in Colombia.
These days a global sense of responsibility and international cooperation are becoming ever more important. The international exchange, which occurs during a year abroad, adds to these global phenomenae. While communicating with the locals and playing games with the children, the volunteer works actively towards the decrease in social injustice, besides getting to know a new culture, which will help him create an increased awareness of the situation here back in Europe. The intercultural exchange is an active form of work towards peace, as it creates respect, in regards to personal views and different lifestyles.
