Culture, education and environment

The FMHM can include in its infrastructure a culture centre, a library and a play area, which can be used for dance and sports activities. The culture centre offers children and youths a space to develop their artistic capabilities and also a recreational area. We organize handcraft groups, we communicate, we color and draw with the kids, we make masks and dance ballet. Also traditional local and Christian activities like the “Angeles Somos” are upheld. On the one hand the traditional values are upheld and on the other hand new ideas are always welcomed with constant openness. In this way the culture centre can be used and appreciated by the entire community of Pasacaballos and its surrounding villages. On special occasions it can also function as a cinema or concert hall.

Artists and Workgroups

Children and youths can become active in different groups that are organized by the FMHM: A Hip-Hop group, a youth network and an English group. Furthermore we offer a theater group, in which youths work closely together with seniors in the community.

The Magazine of the FMHM

Magazin

Every week the FMHM receives six hours of time to broadcast on local cable television. In this time we present our project in the village, we broadcast culture programs and inform the villagers of current affairs.

The library

The library of the FMHM aims its offers at school children and students in the community of Pasacaballos. We also help the children with their homework and preparation for major exams.

Kindergartens

The FMHM has constructed Kindergartens in the villages of Ararca and Pasacaballos. Through our kindergartens the children are on the one hand prepared for life in school and on the other the parents supported in such a way that they feel comfortable to come and ask questions, when they need help with solving a problem.

Scholarships (pro-creas)

In return for working for the FMHM a group of youths receive scholarships that support them in their studies and further education.

Environment group

This group consists of around 20 children and youths. It is of paramount importance, that the children realize what is happening in their environment and the world. We are searching for ways to teach these children to love and respect their surroundings. We want these kids to look critically around themselves and actively do what’s best for the environmental improvement of their surroundings.

Child-reporters

This project of the child-reporters called “Against the wind and waves” was founded in 2008 with the aim of informing the community of Pasacaballos of the activities and goings-on inside the FMHM. The primary goal is to promote integration in families and also to broadcast traditions and values via television. 30 children between the ages of 10 and 14 have come together in this group and now work in the area of social communication. They are educated within the group and also help out in pastoral activities. A further aim is to educate the children to think critically and learn how to properly interpret news and the functioning of the media.

In the meantime the group has been acknowledged among others by the city council in Cartagena. We have invited other foundations and NROs to broadcast their programs and activities on our channel.

The project is supported by Missio.

Dropout-project “The bridge is broken”

This project is aimed at dropouts from school in Pasacaballos. The quality of life and opportunities for the young population of Pasacaballos are to be improved, through an integral educational program for children without the possibility of entering a school. The main aim is to reintegrate the participants of the program back into daily life in school, by working on subjects they had missed during their absence. Psychosocial monitoring and nutritional accompaniment are part of the project.

In the program we work with 35 girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 14. They are accompanied for one year, following which they are reintegrated into one of the three schools here in Pasacaballos.
